After five years of hard work, life took José María to France to work as an oenologist in a winery in Puyloubier, a few kilometers from Aix-en-Provenze.
Upon his return, he took up winemaking consulting in several wineries of the D.O. Ribera de Duero and the PDO. Valtiendas, surveillance of vineyards in Ribera del Duero, and advised two top restaurants owned by good friends in Madrid on the selection of wines.
Living between Madrid and Ribera del Duero is when José María met the Chairman of Bodegas el Hacedor, who shared with José María the project and its ambitious goals. José María did not hesitate to join the project and they began, together with other professionals, to build Bodegas El Hacedor, of which José María is a fundamental pillar.

Our brands
Our passion for wine was born more than 25 years ago a few meters from the Roman Villa of Bacchus (or Santa Cruz) in Baños de Valdearados.
The name Villa Romana de Baco comes from its two main mosaics, which were an exaltation to the god Bacchus, god dedicated to wine, the vine and fertility. Deity also, of the field work and agriculture.

“The Triumph of Bacchus”

MONTEVANNOS
The MONTEVANNOS brand was born from these origins and this classic Latin theme is still very present in our corporate identity and branding.

Our range of organic wines
M DE MONTEVANNOS
This brand takes its name from our badge or motto, in bullfighting terms. Our M accompanies us in the capsules of our Montevannos wines, and in our organic wine brand, we have incorporated this distinctive of Bodegas El Hacedor.

Our “Signature Wine”.
OPIMIVS
Lucius OPIMIUS was consul of Rome in 121 B.C., a year in which the extreme heat of autumn produced an excellent grape from which a wine of exceptional quality was obtained. “Opimius wine” was, since then, the name used, for decades, to designate wines of extraordinary quality. This was recorded by Pliny the Elder in his encyclopedia “Natural History”.
VAL DE VANNOS PROJECT
In our vocation to create wines that “please” our customers and friends, we have chosen, for the first time, to have a white wine in our selection, a wine that the whole team of Bodegas El Hacedor love, that, to our modest understanding, we believe is the white wine that has the greatest national and international projection at this time and that will strengthen our portfolio alongside our red wines.
Made from Godello grapes and aged on its own lees (or mother wine), which is nothing more than the microorganisms (yeasts and other substances) that remain precipitated in the tanks after alcoholic fermentation and are incorporated into the wine during aging to give it greater creaminess, new aromas and nuances, reduce its astringency and avoid the risk of oxidation once bottled.
The brand name of our “godello” white wine is Val de Vannos.
We show you the presentation hoping you like it and we will keep you informed of its development and market launch in spring 2024.

The reason for calling it Val de Vannos has its origin in the history of one of our partners, and precursor of this wine, from El Barco de Valdeorras (Orense), the birthplace of Godello, where his grandfather Felix already had vineyards and a winery more than 100 years ago.
