Description
HARVEST 2020
The harvest of 2020 was marked by slightly warmer temperatures than usual. The weather conditions stressed the vineyard, and resulted in a full maturation of the grapes, which arrived at the winery with outstanding ripeness, and in excellent condition.
VINEYARDS, VARIETIES AND AGING
The vineyards are controlled by our viticulturist in the “Quemada” and ‘Quintana del Pidio” regions (95% Tempranillo), and the “Valdepalacios” region in the town of Quintanamanvirgo (5% Merlot). The vineyards are located at an altitude between 825-·850 meters above sea level and planted on land where rocky soil predominates.
The Tempranillo grapes are more than 40 years old and the Merlot grapes are 20 years old.
The manual harvest was carefully transported to a fully equipped warehouse in refrigerated 15 kg palletised boxes to maintain the fruit’s flavours and integrity. Ater de-stemming and crushing, the grapes were placed into stainless steel tanks to undergo natural acoholic and malolactic fermentations.
The wine was then racked into, new and second-year oak barrels for 12 months (25% American, 75,% French), before being bottled.
TASTING NOTE
The wine has a high cherry-red colour (with a slight brik rim); a dean and bright appearance.
On the nose it has different fruit notes, mainly raspberry and strawberry with cream, as well as toffee, and liquorice notes. Its smoothness on the nose gives a sense of honey.
On the palate the wine has a freshness to start, with a nice aftertaste of toasted oak (without being harsh), and balanced tannins.
It has a persistent flavour, and its aroma leaves a memory of luscious, rich jam.
